Dear ChemCon Attendees,
We have made the decision to cancel ChemCon 2020 in order to play our part in keeping everyone safe. Mount Allison University will instead be hosting ChemCon 2021 and we hope you will all join us then!
For those that have already paid, registration fees will be reimbursed in the coming weeks. Please feel free to contact us with any questions regarding reimbursements or the conference.

Proud to bring inspirational speakers from across Canada
Dr. Cathy Crudden obtained her B.Sc and M.Sc at the University of Toronto and her PhD at the University of Ottawa under the supervision of Professor Howard Alper. After completing an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign she started her own research group on the east coast at the University of New Brunswick before moving to Queen’s University as a Queen’s National Scholar in 2002. Dr. Crudden is a leader in organic, organometallic and materials chemistry. She is a Canada Research Chair in Metal Organic Chemistry and has received several awards for her work including the R. U. Lemieux Award in Organic Chemistry, the Catalysis Award from the Canadian Catalysis Society, the Montreal Medeal award from the Chemical Institute of Canada and the Arthur C. Cope Scholar from the American Chemical Society.

Dr. Warren Chan

Dr. Warren Chan obtained his B.A.Sc from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and complete his PhD at Indiana University. He is the direction of the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. He is also a Distinguished Professor and Canada Research Chair in Nanobioengineering. Dr. Chan is a recognized internationally for his research in nanoengineering with applications in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and infectious disease. He has received both Canadian and International awards for his work, including an NSERC Steacie Fellowship, the BF Goodrich Young Inventors Award, the Lord Rank Prize Fund Award in Optoelectronics, the Dennis Gabor and the Kabiller Young Investigator Award.

Diversity in Chemistry Panelists
Dr. Nola Etkin
Dr. Nola Etkin completed a BSc at the University of Ottawa and PhD at the University of Alberta. She currently holds the position of Interim Dean of Science at the University of Prince Edward Island. Dr. Etkin is an active advocate for LGBTQ2S+ rights and will be working with the Chemical Institute of Canada to offer a session on LGBTQ+ in STEM at CCCE 2020.
Dr. Jenny Wong
Dr. Jenny Wong completed her HBSc, MSc and PhD at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan Abbott. Dr. Wong is Mount Allison’s Chemistry Departments newest professor, Dr. Wong brings the perspective of being a visible minority in different parts of Canada.
Dr. David Palmer
Dr. David Palmer completed a BSc and PhD in organic chemistry from Queen’s University and is now a Professor of Chemistry and Department Head at the University of Saskatchewan. He recently gave a lecture on “The Other Side of the Advertisement: Demystifying the Faculty Hiring Process" at the Leaders Overcoming Gender Inequities in Chemistry (LOGIC) Retreat, a satellite meeting of the Canadian Chemistry Congress and Exhibition, in Quebec City.

Dr. Cathy Crudden
completed her BSc and MSc at the University of Toronto before completing her PhD at the University of Ottawa. She started her research group here in New Brunswick at UNB before joining the chemistry department at Queen’s University as well as starting a satellite lab at the Institute of Transformative Bio-molecules in Nagoya Japan. She is among Canada’s most influential female chemists with years of experience both in Canada and abroad.

Mr. Stephen Ball
Mr. Stephen Ball completed a BSc at Mount Allison University and a MSc at Memorial University before heading in a new direction and completing an MBA at Saint Mary’s University. Before joining Natural Products Canada, he used both his biochemistry and business background as a Director of Sales and Marketing at the contract drug manufacturer BioVectra. Mr. Ball currently holds the position of Regional Director at Natural Products Canada.
Dr. David Barnett
Dr. David Barnett completed a BSc in chemistry at the University of New Brunswick before completing a PhD in analytical chemistry at the University of Alberta. He is currently a member of the research team at the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute in Moncton. Dr. Barnett maintains and operates several mass spectrometers and specializes in organic and biological mass spectrometry.
Dr. Stephen Graham
Dr. Stephen Graham’s academic training includes a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Manitoba, a BSc in Pharmacy from Dalhousie University, and a PhD in pharmaco-epidemiology from the University of Florida. He is the Principal of his own Health Outcomes Consulting business since 2002 and he is retired from the RCAF where he served as an Air Navigator and laterally as a Military Pharmacist. Dr. Graham is currently the CEO of Picomole, a company that is developing a breath test for lung cancer.
Mr. Gregory Conn
Mr. Gregory Conn completed an Honours BSc under Dr. Deslongchamps and an MSc under Dr. Eisler at the University of New Brunswick. Soon after, he joined BioVectra in the specialized production team, assisting in the pilot plant scale up of active pharmaceutical ingredients. He is currently a Senior Research Scientist in the Chemistry Process Development group where he works with scientists to design new scale-up processes to cGMP Production scale, delivering high quality pharmaceutical products to major pharmaceutical companies.
